The One With My 2018 Goals

January 17, 2018

I know this one is a bit late but I thought it would still be worth posting despite us being almost in February. I'm not usually one to set goals in January, when the clock strikes 12 and everyone around me is eating their 12 raisins and making their 12 wishes, I just stuff my face with them and get on with my life. New Year's isn't really that big of a deal for me, if it weren't for my boyfriend I'd just spend it at home, drinking some delicious tea and watching Friends until I fell asleep. Having said that, it recently hit me that 2018 was quite a turn for me, I'm turning 23 this year, I've just finished university and I'm supposed to find my first job and move out, it all feels a bit overwhelming, so I thought this would be a good year to actually write down some of my goals as more of a guide and reminder to myself than anything else.

I feel as though some of these goals/resolutions are quite basic and most people may have them, but they're truly things I want to achieve and/or get better at. I think my main goal is to feel comfortable with myself, not only with my own body but also with my own company. I always want to travel but I don't always have the company to do so, this year I'd like to travel more by myself and really learn to enjoy being by myself without fearing what people around me might think. Whilst we're on the topic of being comfortable in my own skin, I never really make promises about working out, but every year I try really hard to exercise and actually enjoy it but after a month or two of regularly exercising I just get sick of it and stop it altogether. This year I'd really like to try to run every day, or more realistically, every other day, instead of working out in my bedroom. This way I wouldn't only be working out and making an actual effort to change my body, I would also be forcing myself to get out of the house and get some fresh air, instead of just staying home all day in front of my computer.

Second goal would be to finally use every single one of my (11) analog cameras. Film photography is something I'm really passionate about but the expense really adds up, and the fear of not getting a good photo, whatever that means, keeps stopping me from just getting out there and shoot whatever I like shooting. The trouble is, I really enjoy street photography but I feel as though my strong suit is portrait photography, and I'm guessing my boyfriend has a limit to how many pictures I can take of his face before he starts hating me forever. Nevertheless, my goal is to buy film for each camera and try to use at least one of them a month, I'll keep you updated on that one.

As we're on the subject of photography, I'd actually like to force myself to let people take pictures of me, instead of continuously hiding my face everytime a camera gets anywhere near me. This is something I've tried to force myself into quite a lot of times before, people keep telling me I'll regret not having pictures of me when I get older, and as I look back to trips with my friends to places like Amsterdam and Paris, I realize I took pictures of everyone and everything but there's not one single picture of my face to remind me I was actually there, which makes me quite sad. I'm not saying I have to have amazing pictures or "instagram-worthy" ones, just the ones that actually remind me of the time it was taken.

Moving on to a book related goal, I'd really like to get back into reading often. I used to be totally addicted to reading, so much so that I would read an entire book in one day, and as I started university and was forced to read for just about anything but pleasure, I started to really loathe the idea of even picking up a book. Now that I've finished university, and am completely lost in life, I really want to get back into it, I don't want to lose the ability to read and enjoy a book. Along with that, I really want to make myself read every single one of my books, maybe I'll write a separate post about this, but the main idea is that I can only buy more books once I've read all of mine, now that's a challenge.

I'll try and keep you updated as much as possible, either with these goals or any other ones that might come about. I'd love to know what you'll be working on this year, let me know about your goals in the comments below and let's try to work on them together!
