Gift Guide for the Bookworm | Christmas

November 15, 2020

There's always at least one bookworm in any family or friend group, in mine that's me so if anyone is interested in getting me anything...

The first place I always visit when buying books is Book Depository, where books are affordable, well organized and honestly, postage is free so no one can beat that, but eBay is also a great place to find some (secondhand) goodness, maybe even an old edition of your loved one's favourite book. Obviously, it's hard to put together a gift guide that will please everyone, but this is mostly supposed to inspire you and maybe help you decide what to get that book-loving nerd in your life. Luckily, my whole family enjoys and collects books and we all have quite different tastes so I thought it would be easier to show you a few options each of us would enjoy and maybe, just maybe, at least one of them will help you.

Not everyone enjoys having several copies of the same book, I for once, love having and collecting different versions of my favourite books, so if you know someone like me, consider buying them a pretty or a special edition of their favourite book. Penguin always has beautiful options so maybe start there, from their Clothbound collection to their Penguin Drop Caps, you got it all. Personally, my favourite editions as of late, all come from Macmillan Collector's Library, every book is beautifully illustrated depending on the actual story, but they also fit together perfectly, and I honestly would like to have them all.

If you're feeling particularly giving, and if you are please think of me because this is my favourite place on Earth, who so desperately need help right now, head on over to Shakespeare and Company. Not only does it have an amazing variety of books, both online and in-store, but you can really make each present special with one of their luxury boxes, include a spritz of perfume, a Shakespeare and Company stamp, a poem, a Polaroid, you name it.

But, buying someone a book isn't always easy, so if you're afraid to get the wrong one, maybe go in a different direction, add to their personal library without the fear of buying a book they don't actually like, such as something to personalise their books, a special bookmark, a tea inspired by their favourite novel, or a print based on one of their favourite books...
